The need for office planning and workplace design
16 November 2009 A workplace design needs to be tailored to your type of business, the kind of work that your staff will carry out and the number of employees you plan to have in any given space. A creative and innovative layout is also want you need to impress potential clients and to give your company the professional finish it deserves. When choosing an office design and fit-out company you need to be assured that they understand your business and listen to your needs.
Here's a simple checklist to go through when considering your contractor:
- Do they offer designs and innovative ideas that will bring your business where you want it to go?
- Can you choose from a variety of layouts and office partitions, from half-height to full-height?
- Are their layouts planned with ergonomic furniture and similar features in mind that will help keep your staff comfortable and motivated?
- Are there clear areas for each department or type of job (a photocopy room for example) in the plan?
- Does the design factor in the hierarchy of workplace design - you don't want to place staff too far from management as it creates distance?
- Will the design appeal to visiting clients?
- Will it adapt to growth and change in your business?
This might all seem like common sense but the planning of your office fit-out or partition update can be stressful and simple things can sometimes be overlooked. You want your builders and designers to work closely with you and keep you
in the loop about everything that is going on and all decisions that are being made.
