August 2009 How to choose office partitions
1 August 2009
In an ideal scenario, an office partition is a feature of your office that will not draw any attention to itself - in short it should sit comfortably within the layout of your workspace. When planned or designed badly however, an office partition can be completely out of tune with the rest of its surroundings or even worse make the office look like an oppressive maze. If you consider the different impression that potential clients will have of your business based on the design of office partitions, not to mention the effects that a poor layout can have on staff productivity, you'll see that it's a much more significant decision than you might have thought. Here are a few things you might need to know and consider in order to make the process simpler and smoother:

1. Half-height office partitions: If you work in a space where you can look over a cubicle wall and speak to colleagues, these are office partitions. Many think only of cubicles when the the phrase "office partitions" is mentioned, but cubicles are just one type of partition. These are generally referred to as half-height partitions.

2. Floor-to-ceiling partitions: Other office partitions act more like walls in that they stretch from the floor to the ceiling and are referred to, unsurprisingly, either as floor-to-ceiling partitions or full height partitions. Though these kinds of partitions close off workers moreso than the half-height variety, they can give the office a more permanent feeling, with the added convenience that they can be moved and adjusted without difficulty.

3. It's obviously important to establish whether you want the open feel of half-height offices or the permanence of full-height partitions in your workspace. In a case where you can't quite decide, or you would like to combine the benefits of both options, then you should consider portable office partitions. This type of office partition can be picked up and moved in minutes, and often have rolling wheels to make movement easier. This saves the headache and wasted time of taking full height office partitions apart in order to move them.

With all of this in mind then, make a plan or devise an ideal layout that you think will work best for your business and make your staff feel comfortable and safe to work in.
